Membership Categories

Peukku_Nicke_175pxThe services and rights can vary depending on your membership category. Briefly, the differences are as follows:

  • Employee members enjoy full SMKJ membership benefits and services.
  • Entrepreneur members enjoy full SMKJ membership benefits and services. However, they are not members of the Unemployment Fund of the Sales and Marketing Professionals.
  • Student members are not automatically members of the Unemployment Fund of the Sales and Marketing Professionals. Also, they have no professional legal expenses insurance. Student members can join our Unemployment Fund separately.
  • Pensioner members are not part of the Unemployment Fund of the Sales and Marketing Professionals. Also, they have no legal expenses insurance.

All members are obliged to pay the annual membership fee according to their membership category as established by the SMKJ governing council.

Employees

SMKJ Regulations paragraph 6:
"The SMKJ Board can accept a membership application for a person who works in sales, marketing or purchasing within trading, industry or services."

SMKJ employee members work for another person or a legal entity. Employee membership includes the services of SMKJ’s Unemployment Fund.

The annual membership fee for employee members is € 297 including the SMKJ Unemployment Fund membership. New members are also charged a € 26 handling fee. The membership fee is paid in three instalments.

Become an SMKJ Employee Member

Entrepreneurs

SMKJ entrepreneur members are self-employed, working in sales, marketing or purchasing. Entrepreneur member’s firm can be a company, limited partnership or general partnership or he can work through a trading name.
Most of the firms owned or part-owned by the SMKJ Entrepreneur Members are agencies or franchises and therefore SMKJ’s varied services are tailored for these. SMKJ entrepreneur membership does not include the services of the SMKJ Unemployment Fund. Entrepreneurs can, however, insure themselves against unemployment through, for instance, the Unemployment Fund for Entrepreneurs and Self-Employed (AYT).
The annual membership fee for entrepreneur members is € 213. New members are also charged a € 26 handling fee. The membership fee is paid in two instalments.

Students

SMKJ student membership is for you,

  • if you’re studying at the moment, but are interested in a future career in sales and marketing; or
  • if you want to prepare yourself for working life and look to managing you’re your career in sales.

NOTE! SMKJ student membership is not a substitute for your student association membership. In order to safeguard your best interests in your own field of study, you should also join your own student association.

SMKJ student membership can last up to 4 years. After your studies are completed, your student membership will end. After moving into work life you should join your own union. If working in sales, marketing or purchasing, the choice is SMKJ. You can become our member regardless if you’re an employee or entrepreneur.
Student membership is free of charge.
For students, who are working while studying, a working student membership is available. Working student membership is a category within student membership. The annual membership fee is €90 and it offers the following additional services:

  • services of the SMKJ Unemployment Fund, and
  • professional liability insurance and legal expenses insurance.
  • Working student membership is a fixed-term membership category and can run up to 4 years after joining SMKJ. The membership fee is paid in two instalments.

After retirement

SMKJ Retired Members are members who, after retiring, want to continue their SMKJ membership.

You cannot join SMKJ after you’re retired. You’re membership can only be changed into a retired membership after first being accepted as a member according to SMKJ regulations.
Benefits for SMKJ Retired Members are more limited that for other members. Unemployment fund services, legal expenses insurance and liability insurance are not included. However, SMKJ’s off-working-time traveller’s insurance and accident insurance are valid until the end of the year a retired member turns 68 years of age.

SMKJ Retired Members have no voting rights and they cannot act as members or deputy members of the SMKJ council or board. If an SMKJ member retires while acting also as a member of the SMKJ council or board, he or she must resign from the council or board.

The SMKJ retired membership annual fee is € 45.

This includes the handling fee of € 26.
